Sabrina’s Beer Brats Recipe

Whether it’s a tailgate party, Oktoberfest, or a summertime meal, you can’t beat a juicy brat on a hoagie roll. There’s no better way to make flavorful brats than marinating uncooked sausages in a beer bath, simmering for a bit, and finally finishing on a hot grill until they are golden brown. Top them off with some caramelized onions and maybe a little spicy mustard, and you’ll be the king of any block party.

  • 1 yellow onion , thinly sliced
  • 2 teaspoons red pepper flakes
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 8 bratwurst
  • 8 hot dog buns
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil

Instructions

  • In a large container with a cover add the beer, onions, red pepper flakes, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper.
  • Whisk well.
  • Add the bratwurst to the container and refrigerate for 2 hours or overnight.

  • Remove the bratwurst and raise the heat on the remaining beer sauce to high heat.
  • Place the bratwurst on a hot griddle or grill. Cook through, about 3-4 minutes on each side.
  • While the brats are cooking, cook down the beer sauce and onions.
  • Brush the hot dog buns with vegetable oil and toast cut side down on your griddle
  • Serve the bratwurst with the cooked onions in your hot dog buns.
