This Cheese Danish is an excellent recipe to enjoy on a weekend morning, share with coworkers, or serve for brunch. The combination of buttery puff pastry and cream cheese filling offers a rich, sweet, and tangy flavor. It’s an amazing blend, that you’ll savor with every bite. This pastry was made to pair perfectly with a steaming mug of coffee or your favorite refreshing cold brew.

  • 1 large egg , separated
  • 8 ounces cream cheese , softened
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 2 teaspoons lemon juice
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 box frozen puff pastry sheets , thawed (17.3 ounces)
  • 1/4 cup coarse sanding sugar

  • Preheat the oven to 375 degrees and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
  • In a large bowl whisk together the egg yolk (keep the egg white for later), cream cheese, sugar, lemon juice and vanilla extract until smooth.
  • Cut each piece of puff pastry (there should be two sheets in the box) into 6 pieces and put the pieces onto the lined baking sheets.
  • Gently score a 3/4" border around the edges, running the knife in a square but only going about halfway through the thickness of the puff pastry.
  • Evenly add the cream cheese mixture to the inside squares of all the puff pastry.
  • In a small bowl whisk the egg white with a tablespoon of water and brush it onto the edges of the puff pastry, then sprinkle with coarse sanding sugar.
  • Bake for 18-20 minutes until the edges of the puff pastry are golden brown.
