There are so many different varieties of traditional Indian chutneys, including coconut, mango, and mint. Although Chutney is an Indian dish, it’s now enjoyed in many parts of the world, and can be used in different types of cuisine. This homemade chutney makes an adaptable condiment that you can add to curries, meat, bread, crackers, and more.

Ingredients
 

  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 yellow onion , finely diced
  • 6 cups apples , cored and diced
  • 1/2 cup golden raisins
  • 1 cup dried apricots , diced
  • 1 cup white vinegar
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt

Instructions

  • To a large dutch oven add the vegetable oil and onions, cooking on medium heat.
  • Stir and cook the onions for 4-5 minutes until softened and translucent.
  • Add in the apples, golden raisins, and apricots.
  • Stir well to coat and cook for 4-5 minutes until apples start to soften.
  • Add in the vinegar, water, sugar and salt.
  • Stir well and bring to a simmer.
  • Cook for 35-40 minutes until thickened, stirring frequently.
  • Store in a covered container in your refrigerator or can for longer storage.
  • Serve over cooked meats or with cream cheese and crackers.
