Chef’s Note

I wait until the very end to add the champagne to the glass, and never add it to the shaker. Shaking champagne, or anything carbonated for that matter will cause your drink to foam up and lose carbonation.

Can this be made ahead of time?

Since this beverage is carbonated, it’s best made right before serving. You can mix the gin, lemon juice, and simple syrup ahead of time if needed. Then store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours.

How to Store

  • Serve: To keep the champagne tasting delicious and fizzy, it’s best to drink your French 75 Cocktail right after pouring it.
  • Store: If this drink is fully prepared, storing leftovers won’t be ideal since the champagne will go flat. It’s best to make this drink right before serving. You can however, follow the directions above for making the flat ingredients in advance and store those if needed.

Variations

  • Non-alcoholic: If you want to make this boozy drink friendly to kids, or anyone who prefers not to drink, you can make some easy substitutes. Instead of gin, use tonic water mixed with a splash of lime juice. Or find a gin alternative at your local grocery store like Ritual Zero Proof, or DHOS Gin Free. For the bubbly, use non-alcoholic sparkling wine. The sparkling wine gives you the same beautiful bubbles and a similar taste to the champagne.
  • Mimosa 75: To make this for brunch, along with the original lemon juice ingredients, add the juice and zest from 2 tangerines into the mix. This will give the drink a bright orange color and a sweet, fruity flavor.
