Shrimp Toast can be made in so many ways with all kinds of seasonings and flavorings. These flavorful Chinese appetizers are crispy, savory, and perfect for dipping in your favorite Sweet and Sour Sauce. They make a great starter for homemade “takeout” dinner, or you can make them ahead of time for a quick and delicious snack. You can double the recipe to serve a big crowd and assemble them the day ahead to make party prep even easier.

Ingredients
 

  • 1 pound shrimp , peeled and deveined (30-40 count)
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/4 cup green onions , thinly sliced, whites only
  • 10 slices white sandwich bread , crusts removed
  • 3 tablespoons white sesame seeds
  • 2 cups bread crumbs
  • vegetable oil for frying

Instructions

  • Add the shrimp, eggs, salt, and green onions to a food processor.
  • Pulse 15-20 times until it creates a paste.
  • Cut the sandwich bread into to diagonal triangles, then cut those triangles into two triangles. Each slice should be cut into four triangles.
  • Gently spread the shrimp paste onto each triangle.
  • Sprinkle over the top with the white sesame seeds.
  • Press the shrimp side of each piece of bread gently into the bread crumbs.
  • Heat 3″ of vegetable oil to 350 degrees in a large dutch oven.
  • Fry for 3-4 minutes until both sides are golden brown, frying 4 pieces at a time.
  • Serve with Gyoza sauce or sweet and sour dipping sauce.
