Sabrina’s Sloppy Joe Tater Tot Casserole Recipe

This delicious casserole starts with the same ground beef mixture you find in classic Sloppy Joes, smothers it in cheese, and then bakes it with frozen tots. Talk about all your family’s favorite flavors in one main dish! Easily made in about an hour, this budget-friendly dinner recipe is sure to be a go-to. This Sloppy Joe Tater Tot Casserole uses my popular Ultimate Sloppy Joes filling but any of my amazing Sloppy Joe Recipes would be delicious too!

Sloppy Joe Tater Tot Casserole

Ingredients
 

  • 1 pound ground beef , 85/15
  • 1 yellow onion , diced
  • 15 ounces tomato sauce
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar , packed
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon red wine vinegar
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 16 ounces tater tots
  • 2 cups cheddar cheese , shredded

Instructions

  • Heat oven to 350 degrees. Spray 9×13-inch baking dish with cooking spray.
  • Cook beef and onion in large skillet over medium high heat 7 to 9 minutes, stirring frequently, until brown. Drain beef mixture and return to skillet.
  • Stir in tomato sauce, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, vinegar and salt. Cook 2 to 3 minutes, stirring frequently, until boiling.
  • Pour beef mixture into casserole dish. Top with 1 cup of the Cheddar cheese, then the tater tots in a single layer.
  • Bake 45 minutes, until sloppy joe mixture is bubbly and potatoes are lightly browned.
  • Top with remaining cheddar cheese and cook additional 5 minutes until cheese is melted.
