Sweet Cornbread Cake is perfectly moist and tender with sugar and honey. A perfect, sweet, classic Southern side for Chili and BBQ dishes.

This recipe is sure to be a Side Dish favorite with any cornbread lovers. It’s similar to a Basic Cornbread Recipe, but it’s made to be more moist and sweet.

Sabrina’s Sweet Cornbread Cake Recipe

Though this cornbread is sweeter than classic cornbread, it still makes an amazing side dish to traditional dinner meals. Serve the cornbread with Chili just like you would with normal cornbread. It would also taste great with Fried Chicken and a side of corn on the cob. It’s the perfect addition to your favorite hearty home cooked meals.

Ingredients
 

  • 1 cup cornmeal
  • 3 cups flour
  • 1 1/4 cups sugar
  • 2 tablespoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter , melted
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 4 large eggs
  • 2 1/2 cups buttermilk

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees and spray a 9×13 baking pan with baking spray.
  • In a large bowl whisk together the cornmeal, flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  • In a second bowl whisk together the butter, honey, eggs, and buttermilk.
  • Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and whisk until just combined.
  • Pour into baking dish and bake for 40 minutes or until just golden brown.
