Chef’s Note

If you want a less sugary option, you can substitute Sprite for club soda, or add Diet Sprite to keep the sweetness. If you don’t want to use soda, you can always skip the carbonation and use water instead. You just may need to add more flavoring and sweetener to make it taste right.

Can this be made ahead of time?

Because of the Sprite this recipe is best made fresh, so your limeade doesn’t go flat.

How to Store

  • Serve: This is great for a hot summer day, but make sure you don’t leave it out for too long, or the ice will start to melt and water down the drink. You can keep ice in a cooler on the side so your guests can add as much or as little ice to their glass, which will prevent a watered down beverage.
  • Store: If you have leftovers, you can store the in the refrigerator. Kept in the fridge, leftovers can stay good for 2-3 days, but it will be flat.
  • Freeze: The carbonation in the Sprite can cause the drink to expand in the freezer, so I wouldn’t recommend freezing this drink.

Variations

  • Adult version: To make into an adult drink option, you can add liquor for a fun cocktail. For the best results, make the recipe as is, then add vodka or your alcohol of choice to a glass with ice, and top with the limeade.
  • Fresh cherries: Add 3 cups of pitted cherries and 2 peeled limes to your food processor. Pour in the Sprite, and add sugar. Blend until smooth. Then drain to remove any fruit chunks, and add remaining Sprite and ice.
  • Frozen Limeade: Add all the ingredients (except the garnishes) to your blender. Add 3-4 cups of ice and blend until it’s mixed. You may have to divide the recipe into two batches since all the ingredients likely won’t all fit in your blender.
  • Strawberry Limeade: Prefer strawberry flavor to cherry? You can make this recipe with fresh strawberries instead of cherry juice. Just add 1 ½ cups hulled and sliced strawberries and 1 cup lime juice to your blender. Blend the strawberries into the lime juice until smooth, then use the mixture to flavor the rest of the drink.

  1. There’s no measurement in the recipe for the maraschino cherry juice. How much do you add? I am excited to make this for our cookout this weekend!

    1. Sorry that wasn’t clarified in the recipe. You’re going to want to add all the juice from the 10oz jar. Hope I caught this in time for your cookout, enjoy!
