Chef’s Note

If you don’t have a blender, you can also use a food processor or a hand mixer. The key is to beat it until it’s smooth and creamy, which might take longer with an electric mixer.

Can this be made ahead of time?

Yes, you can make this ahead of time and store it in the freezer until you are ready to serve. However, keep in mind that the texture may change slightly after being frozen and thawed. You can make it creamier by adding a splash of juice or cream and blending again before serving.

How to Store

  • Serve: You don’t want to keep at room temperature very long after making it because it will melt fairly quickly.
  • Freeze: Transfer prepared Dole Whip to an airtight container and store in the freezer for up to a week. Press a piece of plastic wrap on top of the mixture before adding the lid to prevent ice crystals.  If it becomes too hard, let it sit at room temperature for a few minutes before blending with more juice or cream.

Variations

  • Non-Dairy: Use the coconut swap below, or swap it out with any non-dairy ice cream substitute you prefer. Keep in mind that non-dairy ice cream has a higher moisture content and less fat, so it might be slightly grainier.
  • Coconut: Use coconut milk and frozen coconut cream plus some extra sugar instead of the ice cream.
  • Mango: Replace the pineapple juice with mango juice or puree, and swap half the pineapple with frozen mango chunks. This tropical twist would be amazing with some Tajin seasoning on top.
  • Dole Float: Serve like an ice cream float by piping it into a cup and then filling the cup with a fruity soda like pineapple or orange. Lemon lime or cream soda would taste amazing too!
  • Popsicle: If you have leftovers, you can freeze it in Popsicle molds to create individual treats that you can grab and go.
