Sabrina’s Strawberry Smoothie Recipe

This lightly sweet, creamy smoothie is so simple to make. It only takes a minute or two to add the 5 ingredients to your blender. Turn it on and let it blend into the perfect drink recipe.

It’s a wonderfully quick and easy process, but you’ll be amazed at how tasty this Strawberry Smoothie recipe turns out. The secret is using the perfect ratio of dairy and fruit ingredients. As the frozen strawberries blend into the milk and yogurt, the consistency becomes smooth, silky, and rich but not so thick that it’s hard to drink. Add a bit of sugar and vanilla for extra flavor, and voila, you have the BEST smoothie ever!

Ingredients

  • 2 cups frozen strawberries: This delicious smoothie recipe is flavored with real fruit. Use frozen berries to keep the mixture chilled and frothy. The ice crystals will blend with the smoothie as you puree the fruit for the ultimate refreshing drink.
  • ½ cup whole milk: Use whole milk as the liquid ingredient to thin the strawberry mixture into a silky, drinkable consistency.
  • ½ cup vanilla yogurt: Adding yogurt makes smoothie recipes richer and creamier. Opt for vanilla yogurt for extra flavor. If you prefer the flavor, you can use regular vanilla yogurt or Greek yogurt. If you prefer to cut out the vanilla and focus on the fruity flavor, you can also use plain yogurt.
  • 3 tablespoons sugar: Add granulated sugar to sweeten the smoothie. If you want less sugar, start with just a tablespoon, taste test, and add more according to your taste. If you dislike adding white sugar to your Strawberry Smoothies, you can sweeten the recipe with maple syrup, honey, coconut sugar, or agave nectar.
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract: Add an additional couple of teaspoons of vanilla extract to enhance the light vanilla flavor of the yogurt.

Kitchen Tools & Equipment

  • High-powered blender: You’ll need a high-power blender to puree the strawberry mixture until it becomes smooth and drinkable. A standard blender or bullet blender will work for this recipe. If you don’t have a regular blender but still want to make a smoothie, try an immersion blender or food processor.
  • Glasses: The only other thing you’ll need is something to serve your smoothies in. This recipe makes enough for two glasses, but you could always double it up to make enough for 4. If you plan to drink the recipe on the go, add it to a reusable thermos.

Chef’s Notes: Tips for Smoothies

  • Opt for frozen fruit: Frozen fruit adds ice crystals to the smoothie blend, keeping it chilled longer and thickening the mixture into a nice, frothy consistency. If you want to use fresh strawberries, add ice to the blender to achieve the same consistency without the frozen berries.
  • Adjust ingredients as needed: You can customize this recipe to suit your personal taste. If the smoothie seems too thin, add extra frozen berries or ice to thicken the mixture. If it is too thick, you can pour in additional milk until it reaches the silky consistency you want.

Ideas to Serve Smoothies

  • Breakfast: serve this fresh smoothie as a filling drink along with simple and classic breakfast dishes. You can enjoy the berry smoothie with Strawberry Muffins, toast, oatmeal, Pancakes, Waffles, or eggs.
  • Smoothie bowl: Use this Strawberry Smoothie recipe as the base for a smoothie bowl. Top it off with any of your favorite add-ons, such as fresh berries, granola, seeds, nut butter, coconut flakes, banana slices, or shaved chocolate.

How to Store

Store: If you have any leftover Strawberry Smoothie, cover the glass or pour the mixture into an airtight container and keep it in the fridge for 3-4 days. The smoothie will stay fresh but start to melt, so the texture will become looser during storage.

Freeze: For a more extended storage option, freeze your Strawberry Smoothie for up to 6 months. You can store the mixture in a freezer bag, freezer-safe mason jar, or another airtight container. Be sure to leave some head space in the container so the liquid ingredients can expand when frozen.

Serve: when you’re ready to serve the frozen smoothie, let it thaw in the fridge and stir together any separated ingredients.

Frequent Questions

Can you put whole strawberries in a smoothie?

Yes, this recipe calls for frozen strawberries, which can be purchased whole or sliced. Using real fruit makes for a healthy drink recipe.

How to make my smoothie recipe thick and creamy?

A perfectly creamy smoothie depends on the ingredients you add. For a wonderfully rich texture, use extra creamy yogurt and whole milk. If you want to make the smoothie thicker, add extra berries or other ingredients like oats or seeds to the blender.

Do I need to put sugar in my smoothie?

No. Adding sugar makes the smoothie slightly sweeter and more enjoyable, but if you prefer not to, you can rely on the natural strawberry flavor to sweeten your recipe instead.

Easy Smoothie Variations

  • Mixed Berry Smoothie: You can make your homemade smoothie with a variety of different fruits depending on what flavor you want. Try using frozen blueberries, blackberries, raspberries, or a mix of all of them to make the recipe.
  • Strawberry Banana Smoothie: There are also plenty of other types of frozen fruit that you can add to the recipe. Try blending in frozen bananas for a delicious Strawberry Banana Smoothie.
  • Vegan smoothie: To make a Strawberry Smoothie for a vegan diet, you’ll need to swap out the milk and yogurt for dairy-free ingredients. Oat, cashew, coconut, or almond milk make good non-dairy milk alternatives. Alternatively, you could exchange the milk for fruit juice, such as orange juice or apple juice. Then, swap out the regular yogurt for vegan vanilla yogurt for perfectly creamy vegan smoothies.
  • Healthy smoothie: To boost the nutrients in your smoothie recipe, add a handful of spinach. A small amount of fresh spinach will add many nutrients without altering the flavor too much. You could also boost the protein with a spoonful of almond butter, peanut butter, or protein powder. Flax seeds, or hemp seeds, also blend wonderfully into the healthy Strawberry Smoothie.
