Sabrina’s Bagel Sandwich Recipe

This Bagel Sandwich is a wonderful recipe to make when time is limited. It’s a simple but delicious combo of soft buttery, toasted bagels with fantastic breakfast fillings. I’ve also included variations below, so you can get creative. It’s especially a great addition to a brunch spread served alongside favorites like Strawberry Pancakes and Tater Tot Breakfast Casserole. When serving a group, I cut them so that everyone can have half of one while still being able to enjoy everything else.

Chef’s Note

Though it makes an excellent breakfast, you also don’t have to limit this to the morning. I love serving this as a lunch option or a laid back meal at dinner time paired with a green salad. It’s also great to prep in advance for a packed lunch.

Can this be made ahead of time?

I love enjoying this tasty recipe fresh. However, you can also make this in advance. To keep for later, carefully wrap in plastic wrap followed by tin foil. Then you can keep it in the fridge or the freezer.

How to Store

  • Serve: Don’t leave this sandwich at room temperature for more than 2 hours.
  • Store: Wrap in plastic wrap, and put in a ziplock bag or another airtight container to store in the fridge to stay good for 3-4 days.
  • Freeze: To freeze, wrap in plastic wrap followed by tin foil. It can stay good frozen for up to 2 months. Let it defrost in the fridge overnight, then heat on a skillet over medium low heat till warm, or microwave for 45-60 seconds.

Variations

  • Pesto: Spread a little pesto over your toasted bagel. Add a ripe avocado slice, a slice of tomato, egg, and any other sandwich fillings you want.
  • Cheese: Instead of Cheddar cheese, experiment with different kinds of cheese. Monterey Jack, Swiss, American, or Pepper Jack all taste delicious.
  • Mini bagels: Make this into the perfect finger food with mini bagels. A whole fried egg won’t fit, so make scrambled eggs and divide up, along with the ham and cheese.
  • Steak and cheese: Fry up some shaved steak in place of ham for a fancier breakfast.
