Sabrina’s Toasted Ravioli Recipe

If you’re a cheese and pasta lover, then you’re sure to love this Toasted Ravioli. Typically, this pasta is boiled and served with a Marinara or Homemade Bolognese. However, this recipe uses the air fryer or oven method to turn them into a perfect appetizer with a crispy golden coating. Put them out on a serving platter with a robust tomato sauce, Pesto Cheesy Bread and Garlic Meatball Bites. Additional variations as well as my own personal tips are listed below.

Chef’s Note

I never skip spraying the raviolis with the cooking spray. That light spray of oil helps the coating brown evenly, and will become crispy instead of staying dry and pale. Flipping halfway through gives both sides a nice golden finish. Finally don’t crowd them and cook in batches if necessary, in a single layer, and give a little space in between each piece. This will help them crisp up nicely.

Can this be made ahead of time?

These taste best enjoyed warm and fresh. However, if you want to prep this recipe for a party or another occasion, store the pre-made ravioli in the fridge for up to 5 days, or in the freezer for 1-2 months. When ready to serve, reheat in the oven. Add a layer of vegetable oil spray to help the coating get crunchy again while heating in a 375-degree oven for 7-10 minutes, or air fry at 350 degrees for 5 minutes.

How to Store

  • Serve: Don’t leave this recipe sitting out at room temperature for more than 2 hours.
  • Store: Cool completely, then transfer to an airtight container and store in the fridge for up to 5 days.
  • Freeze: Place the ravioli on a parchment-lined baking sheet and put the pan in the freezer for about an hour until frozen solid. Transfer to a freezer bag to keep for up to 2 months.

Variations

  • Seasonings: Mix some spices into the breadcrumb mixture. Add a teaspoon of garlic powder, black pepper, onion powder, red pepper flakes, cayenne pepper, rosemary, oregano, or an Italian seasoning blend.
  • Ravioli fillings: Instead of the standard cheese filling, make a meat lovers option with seasoned ground meat fillings. Some popular meat ravioli fillings are beef, ground chicken and garlic, Italian sausage, and lobster. Try spinach and feta, four cheese, butternut squash, pumpkin, or spinach and mushroom. Really any fresh ravioli that you love will only taste more delicious with the crispy toasted coating on the outside.
  • Cracker coating: Swap out the breadcrumbs for another easy to toast coating. If you don’t have breadcrumbs or just don’t like them, switch to cracker crumbs. Saltine or Ritz crackers make good alternatives.
