Sabrina’s Tip

For extra juicy, flavorful chicken, let the shredded meat rest in the slow cooker for 15 to 20 minutes after shredding. This gives the chicken time to absorb even more of the buffalo sauce, resulting in more flavorful sandwiches.

About This Recipe

The advantage of a long cook time is that you can set your slow cooker to low and go about your day while it goes to work. This chicken recipe is perfect for sandwiches because it infuses the meat with flavor and you can just pull it out and spread it on bread when you’re ready to eat. If you love chicken wings, you’ll definitely be familiar with buffalo sauce, but you may not have had it with ranch dressing mix before (Try my Homemade Ranch Dressing Mix!). The ranch mix adds a rich, creamy texture to the buffalo sauce and cuts a little bit of the tangy vinegar taste. This blend, along with the cream cheese spread on the toasted brioche buns, makes for a yummy sandwich with a little bit of a spicy tang. Serve up with a side of Easy Coleslaw and Loaded Garlic Fries.

Pairing Suggestions

If you love Buffalo Chicken flavors and wings you are on the right site! I love ALL THINGS Buffalo flavored! Check them out below, and try serving them as an appetizer with this sandwich.

How To Store

  • Serve: You shouldn’t leave your sandwiches out for longer than 2 hours at room temperature.
  • Store: You can store the meat part of your sandwich in the fridge for up to 3 days in a sealed container.
  • Freeze: The meat will be good in the freezer for about 3 months. You should always allow the meat to cool completely to room temperature before you seal it up or you will trap bacteria inside with it.

Variations

  • Blue cheese dressing: Blue cheese dressing is a classic buffalo chicken dip at wing restaurants, and for good reason: it’s absolutely delicious. Try drizzling a little over your sandwich for a burst of flavor or add blue cheese crumbles for some added texture. Blue cheese in general is fantastic with buffalo wing sauce.
  • Buffalo chicken leftovers: If you want to get creative with your leftover Slow Cooker Buffalo Chicken, you can use it in all sorts of different easy recipes. You can shred the chicken, wrap it in a tortilla and make them into tacos, or put it over chips with Pico de Gallo, shredded cheddar cheese, avocado and garlic powder for a plate of nachos as a game day appetizer.
  • Hot sauce: Buffalo sauce is already a little spicy, but if you want everything to be spicy you can slice up some fresh jalapeños and layer them on top of the chicken. If spicy food is your regular Tuesday night and you laugh in the face of hot wings, drizzle some hot sauce on top or mix in some habanero flakes into the ranch blend. Keep in mind though that the ranch mix will dull the heat a little bit.

  1. Super yummy !! I have made this several times now it just seems better each time !! Thanks for the recipe !! Every recipe of yours I try is always a HUGE success !!

  2. Does this need to be made with Frank’s Buffalo Sauce or can this be done with homemade Buffalo Sauce (with butter)? Will it burn if using homemade due to the length of time in the crock pot?

      1. That is a challenge. My concern is the chicken would be overcooked and stringy. Safe to eat, but not as good I’m afraid.

  3. This was really good, we used Moore’s Original buffalo sauce and toasted the top bun with garlic butter, tasted fantastic.

  4. Hi I can’t wait to make this, I love all your recipes. Can I a make this without the ranch dressing or do you recommend substituting with anything else?

    1. You can use any type of seasoning mix that you like. Ranch and buffalo sauce are a fun combination (think wings!) so that’s why I used it.

  5. These slow cooker buffalo chicken sandwiches will be perfect for game days this fall. I can get the house ready while these are cooking.

  6. This sandwich looks sooo epic, and I can’t believe how easy it is to make! What a great way to use the slow cooker – cannot wait to give it a go 🙂

  7. I love buffalo wings and this was an easy recipe. However, it was too salty for my taste. I think next time I leave out the ranch seasoning and melt cream cheese into the pot after shredding the chicken.

  8. Do you think this would work if I cut it to 4 servings? I live alone and would still have to freeze leftovers and all the “pulled meat” recipes make so much. Would I need to reduce the cook time?

    1. It should be around the same time, maybe 30 min less but you’ll want to use a smaller slow cooker. If there’s too much empty space, it could end up burning. Enjoy!
